A reworked Artwork

During the latest critique session  on the 13th February 2019 , it was mentioned that I should rework one of my artworks and during the past week this is what I have been up to.The artwork that I  have basically redone was from the pair of GIF's that I created from already existing videos online of a male and a female figures both shaking their heads (Fig 1 & 2) . Just to recap; the concept behind this work was based on idea that the internet is a male dominated and controlled space, a claim that is usually made by the female authors I have researched so far.So, originally I had made a pair of artworks that address this idea and I thought that it could be a good idea if I place the works opposite each other during the final exhibition so that they would appear to having a conversation.

During the session my supervisor mentioned that the artwork would be more successful if I rather have imagery of a woman nodding her head, so that there would be a disconnection or disagreement between the two figures and the idea of the internet being gendered would be reinforced.  In order to make this new work I  used the same steps that I had done previously whereby I went on to the website 'Giffy' and sourced an already existing GIF of a female nodding her head (Fig 3).This GIF was created by a member of public however, it appears to come from a popular TV show 'the Cosby show' which couldn't be more perfect due to the uproar the show has caused in the recent years with the Actor Bill Cosby being convected of sexuall assualt (Reuters 2019) . I feel that I could contextualise this and use it to my advantage to give this pair of artworks a stronger techno -feminist value.

I then went on to import the GIF into photoshop where I edited the original image to make it my own . First, I zoomed up on the figures face ,I then moved on to edit the video in the raw camera filters option on photoshop and I tweaked the colour , whites , blacks , saturation , contrast, grain, highlights and shadows until I reached the desired effect. After this I then went on and solarized the image and then made it black and white so that it would match up with the shaking man artwork, below is the finished result (Fig 4).

When looking at the pair together I do feel that this artwork is now much stronger both conceptually and visually and I now feel like this artwork is finished. So it is time to move on to the next ones.
